Significance of an Headphone Amplifier for an Audiophile
A headphone amplifier is comparatively low-powered amplifier that elevates the low-voltage audio signal from the source device (which can be a turntable, PC, or even smartphone) to a significant level such that it can be converted (or you can say transduced) into sound wave signals by the speakers that are present inside the headphones. It works similar to how amps are used to power up a full-sized speaker, however, it operates at a fairly low scale.
The sad news is that the quality of these built-in parts and components varies greatly from one device to another, and therefore the sound quality also varies a lot because of this. Apple MacBook Pro comes with a decent headphone amp in-built, so the sound output is decent here, however, many of the older generation laptops come with low-quality DACs as well as headphone amps, so the sound output in below average. This is applicable for smartphones as well.
